Horror story of stone surgery - Kidney Disorders Message Board

Surgery was friday morning, urethoscopic. Was a total success, they gave me a picture of stone. Was able to urinate bloody urine as soon as I woke up.

Could not urinate the rest of the day at home, tried sitting in warm bath, no luck.

Ended up 10 pm friday night in emergency ward having a catherer installed. Barely able to walk with it in, it hurts. Cant drive.
___
Tomorrow morning urlogist will remove it and see if I am ok. If not, its back to the emegency room tomorrow night for a new catheter.
___
This could coninue forever, worst case is full function will never come back.
___
They conviently fail to mention this complication to you before surgery.

Keep us posted. that's very odd and very unusual, i've never heard of anything like that, especially since you were able to urinate right after the surgery.

I may be the 1 in a million who's life is destroyed by this procedure. Why me? I knew I should have never done it, i prayed, my family prayed, now look what has happened to me.

wow...i really don't know what to say, except, i'm really sorry to hear about this. i know how scaried, like me, you were of the surgery and you're right, i never once heard of this being a complication. my urologist never even went over complications with me, simply saying everything would be fine.

does your kidney hurt or is it just you can't urinate or both? i know, the day after the surgery for me, my kidney hurt sooooo bad, i thought it was going to rip out of my skin and all i could do was a combination of hot baths (2 in 30 minutes) and vicodin for the pain. after 2 attacks of the kidney, one around 6pm and the other around midnight, i was finally able to sleep around 1am. but now, my kidney doesn't hurt anymore.

it's funny with me, my left side is now sore...maybe because i'm not using it as much. i used to sleep in my sides, but thursday night and friday night i slept on my stomach to just not distrub the kidneys and so, that did help, but now my left side feels funny, but i am almost sure it's just a muscle issue.

did your doctor say anything to you about why this could have happened? i truly feel for you and please, let us know anything else you find out. i will keep you in my thoughts.

Kidney hurt the first day only. no more kidney pain. Just could not urinate, so they had to put in catheter. I was told on the phone in emergency that it could be swelling from the procedure or a small blood clot. I was told that after the catheter comes out on monday, it should be fine. Any swelling or blood clot would have passed by then.

I am very nervous and praying that tomorrow when the catherer comes out I will be ok again. if not I dont know what I am going to do.

Call the van with the people in white coats, would be my next destination, Northern Va mental Health institute. I spent 3 days ther 20 years ago, I may be there for life if they cant fix this NOW.
