Question about Creatinine Level

Hi... Last summer I had an event where my blood pressure took off and went through the roof. After an evening in the emergency room, the doctors were able to get it down.. I have since learned that it was caused by Renal Artery Stenosis in my right kidney artery and that the kidney has atrophied too much to make it make sense to do angioplasty. So the plan is to leave that kidney to "scar away" as the kidney doc described it and to take good care of the left kidney, including keeping me on bp meds to fight off the effects of the small kidney trying to drive the bp high... So far that is working though we are still trying to find just the right mixture of bp meds. The systolic still goes as high as 140 here and there so we're not quite there yet... My question is about serum Creatinine measurements.

Since this happened last summer, I have had many blood measurements of both protein levels and creatinine. The first test after the blood pressure event in August was 1.5 mg/dL. Then over the next couple of months I had three readings that we all 1.4. Then I had a reading of 1.3 and then two readings of 1.2. The second of those 1.2 readings was from a blood test on December 1. Then just a few days later (December 10) the kidney doctor wanted another creatinine clearance test and that includes yet another reading of serum creatinine... And this time it was back up at 1.5!!!!! That bothered me that it was in steady decline over Aug-earlyDecmember and then boom, 10 days after the second 1.2 reading it comes back at 1.5. The doctor said, not to worry, that such was well within normal fluctuation, that if I was just a little bit dehydrated or something (I don't recall) that such could cause that level of change in serum Creatinine... Does anyone have experience with this and might you be willing to comment on what you think about this level of change?? All these tests were done in the same large lab so lab to lab variation likely doesn't explain this change... Any thoughts would be much appreciated... thanks... diitto...

Re: Question about Creatinine Level

i'm 28 and was diagnosed with fsgs with possibility of minimal change disease and can tell you that over about the last 10 months or so my creatinine reading didn't fluxuate much started at .9 to 1.05 which was my last reading , the increase was probably caused by damage from proteinuria that i had. i don't know what that tells you other than my numbers stated pretty steady, good luck with you it but you have to remember that very bad kidneys can be 7.0 or higher withouth dialysis.
