CT scan of kidney with contrast...what was this like??

I am scheduled to have a CT scan of my kidneys and abdomen tomorrow morning. I have had recurrent blood in my urine they can't seem to find a cause for as of yet. They are going to look for stones or anything else they might see.
I am nervous about the IV dye. Have any of you done this? What was it like?
Blessings to you,

Thumbs up Re: CT scan of kidney with contrast...what was this like??

Hi Kathy.... I have not had a kidney cat scan but I have had a brain cat scan. I am sure they are done pretty similar. THey usually get a picture without the dye and one with the dye. The dye when it goes in make you feel warm for a few minutes but it quickly passes. Dont worry about the dye its not that big if a deal. Good luck tomorrow

I had it done. It is not too bad. The contast stuff they have you drink is nasty tasting. The IV dye makes you feel real warm for just a few minutes but it passes. When they do the saline flush after it might burn a little. Other then that it isn't bad at all. They found a mass in my renal gland doing the CT scan. Let me know how you are and if they found anything.

Re: CT scan of kidney with contrast...what was this like??

you see, I had an abdominal CT scan about 2 weeks ago in ER, everything is OK (went to ER because I had HORRIBLE abdominal pains, they thought it could be appendicitis .. it wasnt). Now, when I went to my PCP, he sees in the lab results from the hospital that I have blood in urine.. (not first time, he notices this before in other results).. so he says my abdominal pains and back pains could relate to stone kidney so I am having an IVP done in 2 days.

Now, a CT scan could find the stones but a more direct test is the IVP, according to my doctor.
