The only thing I've been told to prevent future stones is to drink a lot of water. because my stones were so small, the lab was not able to determine what my stones were made out of it and i swear, ever since i got them in 2003, i'm very paranoid about it happening again, especially if i go on vacation.

i have read online that most stones are calcium, which, considering i use a lot of milk in potatoes, cereal, cottage cheese, etc, i do tend to eat a lot of dairy products. i guess it's safe to assume, mine were probably calcium based. does this mean, give up milk and all that stuff and don't take a multi vitamin, because of the calcium level?

also, it says to limit meat and salt intake. i eat beef about 3 days a week, chicken about 2 times a week, tuna fish sandwiches about once a week. i also eat a lot of fries from fast food places, but i don't get salt on my fries. been like that since i worked at a fast food place, at least i know my fries are fresh. anyways....when i make recipes that call for salt, do i just omit that? are there any foods that don't have salt in them? are there any seasonings that don't rely heavily on salt?

i'm 30 and im a female. i lost my mom when i was 19 and my dad when i was 28 to heart attacks, and since their deaths, i am more paranoid about my health. i know my mom had a kidney stone once or twice and my dad, same, about 2 times.

also, what is the likelihood, if i went 29 years without a stone and then got them, now that i'm 30...what is the likelihood i'll get them again? it just seems amazing that after 29 years of nothing, i could then get more and more of them, you know what i mean? it wasn't like i had them since birth, which is why i don't understand how i got one in the first place.

anyways, since my urologist only suggested drinking more water, what are some other dietary changes i need to make and how likely, once i make these changes, will it be that i'll get more stones?

it's not the stones that scare me, it's going back to the hospital for surgery that scares me.
