Angry I am so mad, I could strangle my urologist

Hi all,

I went in to have my kidney stones blasted on April 20th, and everything that my urologist did that day makes me more mad every time I think about it. She gave me a spinal tap, I had to have 4 shots in my spine, she never did that the first time. Before I went to surgery she told my husband that she was only going to focus on my 6mm stone and not worry about the three 2mm stones. I found this out after the procedure that she didn't touch the 2mm stones, then I wanted to talk to her afterwards and she was already gone. Before the procedure she told me that my stone had gotten much bigger since last month, I never ate anything with the oxalates in it and if I did they were the low oxalate foods which are safe for me to eat.

She met me husband numerous times and at the hospital she asked him who he was and was he going to drive me home, and my husband had a weird look on his face like disbelief. That really made me mad.

Now she is telling me that she is going to give me to some kidney stone dietician to help me eat better things for my stones. It seems like she doesn't even want to help me. I know there is medicine out there for calcium oxalate stones but she tells me NO.

I feel the reason she didn't break up the 2mm stones so they can get larger so she can blast again, so she can make her house payment. She told me they will pass, yes I know they MAY pass but in 3 months they haven't.

I have an appointment on Wednesday for a post op, have to have an x-ray and go to her office, I want to find out what stones are left, because I am going to ask her why she didn't just do it while she was there doing the one.

Then when I was laying in the bed in recovery, whatever they had in the IV besides the sugar water, I believe was CIPRO, it was making my whole body itch so bad, I thought I was going to die, I had told one of the nurses and she said that it was the medicine going through me. Has anyone ever had this happen to them?

Anyway, I think a new urologist or better yet Nephrologist is going to be getting a call, I can't handle this woman's bull crap anymore.

Sorry for such a mean post but I am so mad I could just scream.

Thanks for reading my post and any responses are welcome.

JC

Re: I am so mad, I could strangle my urologist

Hi JC
It does sound like you are getting a run around from your doc. (Not surprisingly there are ALOT of those out there) I am a stone patient too and have gone the diet modification thing too, but I still pass any where from 1-5 small peices a month. I have found a little bit of success with getting them to pass without help by taking in a large amount of water in the hour or two before I go to bed. By the time I wake up my kidney aches but then I go to the BR and more times than not, a stone will pass. I dont know if it will work but thought that I would pass it on.
Also maybe you might want to check with your insurance company and see if they have a list of approved doctors you can call. Your present urologist needs to be reminded that you do not work for her- she works for YOU and there are twenty thousand more out there where she came from. Good luck to you-
CC
