Kidney Stone pain

I was just curious to know how painful kidney stones actually are. I have read many articles indicating that it can be one of the most painful experiences a human can endure. Ouch!

The reason I am asking is that for the last 1-2 years I have been having sharp painful episodes in my lower back and flank area, not major but enough to make me stop what im doing and go ouch!. They usually last for about 5-10 seconds. However there is a constant dull/warm ache around me back, waist and testicles. I had my testiecles checked out. I also recently had 2 UTI's at the same time.

Im thinking it may just be a kidney infection as opposed to stones becasue my pain is no where near as painful as KS's are supposed to be.

What do you think?

Re: Kidney Stone pain

Kidney stones form when the salts and minerals that are normally found in the urine become out of balance. Different kinds of kidney stones are formed from salts in the urine. Consumption of too much calcium can aggravate the development of kidney stones, since the most common type of stone is calcium oxalate.

Symptoms:

Sudden onset of excruciating pain in the buttocks area
Abdominal pain
Pain in the genital area as the stone moves
Burning sensation during urination

Reduce your intake of sugar, refined foods, animal products (meats and dairy), caffeine, alcohol, soda, and salt.
Drink more water and eat more fiber, vegetables, whole grains, and vegetable proteins.
Cut down on oxalate-containing foods such as spinach, rhubarb, beets, nuts, chocolate, black tea, wheat bran, strawberries, and beans.

Drinking lots of water (two and a half to three litres per day) and staying physically active are often enough to move a stone out of the body. However, if there is infection, blockage, or a risk of kidney damage, a stone should always be removed.

Hi Mcruk,

Before you go trying to do anything, I would go to a urologist or a nephrologist and find out if these are kidney stones, there could be something else, not to scare you but it could be something worse or something not as bad.

You can't go diagnosing yourself before you go to a doctor.

I have kidney stones and yes they are a painful thing, but there are certain kinds of stones also, you could have anykind of them, if you do have stones.

You will never know what is wrong until you go see someone about this.

JC

Re: Kidney Stone pain

it depends on the size of the stone and where it's at, most stones 1/2 inch will pass on thier own, anything above that will require surgery or some form of intervention whether it's lithotripsy or other procedures, how long you'll be in pain or when the stones passes is based on how well its moving.
