Kidney injury

Has anyone here developed kidney failure from blunt but hard trauma to the lower back? I had this hit and the ache has not gone away for 4 days.

Reason I m not going to docs is coz I hav some medical knowledge. They will most probably just tell me to go and rest after conduction a few tests, so I may as well just continue to rest.

However, I am asking so I can know what to expect in future. Small consolation is its just my left kidney.

Can anything else be done, other than the general, rest, don't smoke, exercise, sleep, eat less fat?

Re: Kidney injury

Can you conduct these "few tests" at home as well?if not, just to make sure, you really need to have this looked into if you are at all concerned. You wont find out anything while resting at home.i doubt that you have kidney failure at this point. It really does take quite alot of force to even injure a kidney let alone cause it to fail. You could have had some sort of bruising though.just to be safe, espescially if you are having pain, you really need to see your doc.better safe than sorry you know?Marcia

Re: Kidney injury

That is the point..that usually blunt injury wont be severe enough to cause doctor intervention. BTW this happened after a guy in martial arts class tried to lift me by hugging me tight with his arms. I guess his right fist was on my back tight. He did lift me and it was quite painful but simply too late for me to turn back the clock. It still aches now, 1 wk later.

From what I know theres almost nothing better do do now..Even if the docs find my Kidneys moderate injured, vis a vis a radiological test, most likely all they can advise is still go home and rest. Hence I may as well do away with the radiation + costs.

I plan to buy some strips to do urinalysis though..r these accurate? still i doubt anything will show since i still hav my right kidney.

Argg..just unfortunate, but if there is still anything I can do some1 tell me.

Re: Kidney injury

If you DO indeed actually have some sort of an injury to your kidney, wouldn't you really like to know that? This does sound as though you have some big concerns about this so I would think the best way to ease your mind would be to actually see your Dr at this point. There may not be anything you can do, but if there is a problem it may need to be monitored closely by your doc for any possible complications.i am not sure just what you mean by the strips??I do feel though that seeing your doc would be the best thing for you considering the fact that you seem to want to know some sort of treatment options here but are unwilling to actually get any sort of a diagnosis.Without an actual Dx,or maybe there really IS nothing wrong, you really cannot treat anything at this point, you know what I mean?By the way, an ultrasound does not involve any sort of radiation or side effects. This would be the best way though for you to really find out if you suffered any real damage to your kidney. At least you would know for sure one way or another if there really is anything to actually worry about.i know you must be worried about possible damage or you would not be seeking help in this board,Am I right? Please see your doc.Marcia

Re: Kidney injury

If the ultrasound shows nuttin m I ok?

BTW, I still lack a few info:

If a person suddenly has Kidney failure, symptoms(other than ache or pain) will show up after how many days?

I read somewhere that, even in the absence of Hypertension, diabetes or anything else, just kidney disease alone, there is sum medication to b taken which is supposedly good for the kidneys. is it true?[Just as Milk Thistle is scientifically proven to be good for the liver, or that there r meds to slow Alzheimers]

Oh, the strips r those which DIY tests for blood or protein in Urine. Was just wondering whether they r accurate.
