Where will the pain occur, when passing a stone? - Kidney Disorders Message Board

What route do the stones take? I am experiencing an odd stabbing kind of discomfort just left of my pubic bone. Only a few occasional jabs over the last couple of days but in exactly the same area and I haven't had this before. I am a male. Is that that path of the Urethra(Ureter?) If I am already getting some discomfort is it too late to do anything except ride it out? I am a little concerned. My brother in law has had stones for years and it puts him in the Emergency ward. No blood or pain urinating so far though. Any thoughts?

What is the size of your stone?

My DH has been diagnosed with a 9mm stone which is currently sitting in bladder. The Doctor has advised him to drink lot of water so it passes out on its own. The Doctor said it might hurt a little when passing out and that he can take painkiller for that.

What advise did your doctor give you? This is the first time he has had a stone and we are worried as to how and when it will pass?

Hey Nicky. Not seeing my Dr until Monday but it isn't a stone after all. The pain became more constant and now appears to be in my descending colon. There are not many good outcomes for that. Would rather have had the stone. Painful but you don't die from those.
My brother in law has had a few stones and has been to Emergency several times. The pain is quite significant for many and the drug of choice is morphine. Not to scare you as I know many people pass them at home with limited discomfort, but if it does get bad, that is not too unusual and shouldn't worry you. Different people have different sizes of plumbing.
