Not a UTI or kident infection, but kidneys stones...questions inside

Had a CT scan ran Friday afternoon after cultures came back negative for infection and flank pain was still there.

CT scan showed stone in right kidney, and the nurse said that I should be able to pass it on my own. They called me in a script for tramadol (Ultram) which I haven't gotten yet because the pharmacy has rotten hours. I did take some Davocet tonight to see if I can get some sleep.

I've had this pain for about 1.5 months. Most people I've talked to that have had stones don't have the pain for that long. Most people have said that there pain was around 2 weeks, then they passed the stone. I'm going to call my neph. in the morning to be sure that she agrees with what my primary is saying.

How long does it take to pass? What if is doesn't go on it's own?

Any ideas on how to pass this darn thing (other than drinking LOTS of awater)??????????

I'd love to hear from others their experience on kidney stones...I don't know what to expect, and I'm kind of nervous that I've had pain for so long and it's still in my kidney.

Hi blue...I'm very familiar with kidney stones. You can read my story titled "newbie here---but extremely familiar with kidney stones". People are different and the rate a stone can pass varies as well. For me, sometimes it can take up to 3 months. Sometimes, the stones just sit in the kidney and move around causing pain, but they don't come out. Drinking lots of fluid, especially water, will help. So will doing physical activity, as long as you can stand the pain. If the stone is too big to pass on its own or causing you too much misery, you may need to have it surgically removed. I can't believe they only gave you Ultram or Darvocet. You need at least some Vicodin. The pain can be unbearable when the stone is coming down and more than likely, you will end up in the ER for very strong pain meds (Morphine or Demerol). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. After all, I'm the kidney stone queen. LOL

Hi KS Queen! LOL!

I did read your stories on the other thread....and wow...some scary stuff! I'm trying to get as informed as I can. YIKES! 3 months to pass a stone! I can't imagine only being halfway there!

I'm mad though...I went to pick up my script - and it wasn't Ultram, but toradol. I can't take it because it's a NSAID. I did take some darvocet last night, but it didn't help at all.

I've got a call into my nephrologist to see what she says, but she won't be in until tomorrow.

Thanks for replying - it's so nice to hear other peoples experience.
