I have hydronophrenosis, moderately and it causes ureter obstruction and my left kidney is losing function and very small, had stents three times, no luck, and now speaking about involved major surgery to cut out damaged part of ureter and then reattaching.Has anyone had this surgery and how did it go for you?Thanks!

I had chronic pyloneuphritis (kidney infection) as a child starting at age 4. After numerous non-invasive treatments were unsuccessful I was operated on at age 8 in which they replaced a damaged portion of my urethra. I am now 35 and apart from the ocassional UTI and slight kidney infection (maybe only one of those) I've led a very normal life. The reason that I've joined this board is bc I had an 8mm kidney stone in which a stent was place in the same side that was operated on and so far so good. I'm not sure if my history has anything to do with the stone but overall I'd say I've done quite well. I know this isn't exactly the same as your possible procedure but it is very similar so i thought I'd give you some imput. Good luck with it and do everything the urologist suggests in preparation and recovery and it should be fine. God be with you!

I just came out of the hospital last week. They cut out the damaged part of my ureter and reimplanted into the bladder. I still have a nephrostomy bag and stent, but we are hoping this will stop the leaking and eventually get me back to normal. My ureter was damaged during a laprascopic hysterectomy and I've had about 5 procedures since. Have you had the surgery yet??
