need to drink Barium Sulfate tomorrow

Hi everyone! I've been dealing with the kidney stones for 3 years now. I'm 35 years old. I've had 7 lithotripsies and just about a month ago, i had the Percutaneous nephrolithotomy surgery where they cut into the kidney from your back and put in a tube. the doctor pulled out 2 stones bigger than the size of peas from the surgery and was surprised at how dense they were despite the many lithotripsies. my problem is i didn't recover too well from the surgery - i've been very sick and had a terrible infection. lately i've been throwing up all liquids - i can keep food down, but no liquids. tomorrow i have to have a CT contrast scan and have to drink the barium sulfate suspension in the morning. since i'm continuiously nauseous i have no idea how i'm going to get this huge bottle down and keep it down. Anyone have any history with it? can i chase it with some sprite or water or something? my instructions say to not eat 4 hours prior to the scan and can only have clear liquids, but can take my meds in the morning with only a sip of water.

Re: need to drink Barium Sulfate tomorrow

never mind - the barium didn't go down and what did didn't stay down. i couldn't drink it. i ended up having the injection for the CT scan. i don't know why they didn't just figure on that in the first place! anyway, the results are that there is still some urine that had leaked from the tube that the body still hasn't reabsorbed yet, i have 2 infected cysts and a new small stone that has formed. all together this is making me sick and have lots of pain. just time - that's all we can do right now - time and anti-biotics. i also have 5 bigger stones in my right kidney. they're not hurting right now so we're just going to let them be for awhile and will eventually have to do an eighth lithotripsy to break them up. i guess i'm just a stone former. i can't believe i'm going to have to go through this my entire life. this sucks!
