Small kidney stones - Lithroptsy necessary? - Kidney Disorders Message Board

Hi everyone!
I'm 22. One year ago I was diagnosed with some small stones on the right kidney which the biggest was 3mm. I hadn't much pain. Was bearable.
Was told by Uro to leave them pass by themself.
I went to the Uro last week (more then a year later - pain is the same, not bothering much) to check it again and he still saw them but they didn't grow.
The doctor sent me to blow them up by Lithroptsy.
Now, my question is if it is really necessary to make that treatment.
After searching on the Internet I saw that the Lithroptsy breaks bigger stones to small peaces of 3mm and smaller. So why should I do that treatment while my biggest one is only 3mm? Aren't there other ways to get rid of them?

I heard of this. If nature does not take it's course after so long - the lithotripsy can push them along so they do not settle and cause long term damage to the kidney.

From personal experience, I would let them pass on their own. The ureter (the tube that connects the kidney with the bladder and through which all urine passes) is 3mm in diameter. Your stone mentioned will probably cause discomfort while passing through this area. Have some pain medications ready! The Lithotripsy works sometimes but is it worth the $12K and a day of agony? Any clue, as to what type of stone(s) that you have? Knowing this, could help in your decision also. There's always a chance too, that the stones will just rest in your kidney. All depends, on where they are now located. Bottom line, you don't want the stones to prevent urine flow for any length of time. So keep on monitoring your progress.

They didn't pass after more then a year.
Are there any ideas to make them pass?
