I have a narrowing of my right ureta, just after the kidney, it's a sharp "kink" and i have experienced great pain because of this, i am also unable to pass large amounts of urine and it mostly contains blood in large volumes. I also have been told from recent scans that the kidney has become baggy and is not pumping correctly as a result of the blockage, causing the kidney to swell.... (distention)

I have had a failed open pyeloplasty which left a stent in the ureta, this caused a lot of irritation and bleeding, once the stent was removed after 6 weeks, i continued to be in severe discomfort due to infection and the ureter closing up again.

I have subsequently had 3 further stents inserted into the ureter, with no significant change.

I am therefore asking for another professional opinion as to what the next steps are, i believe the left kidney is working at 65% overall and the right (with restricted ureter) at just 25%.

I would be grateful for any reply / input

Becuase it is kinked I am not sure if this option can work for you nor do I know the name but there is a procedure where the widen the uretur with spacers and then place an inflated balloon in the area forming scar tissues around the balloon. The scar tissue operates like a permanent stent. Might be something to discuss with your docs.

I noticed your screenname is Boost Junkie - is all this Boost got for you - many times to much protein is damaging to the kidneys. Have you been for a nutritional analysis of 24 hour metabolic urine analysis?

I will have an update on my condition in a few weeks as i will have the results for my kidney function test

I too have the same condition as yourself, although mine is the left ureta, i am due to have surgery within the next 2 months to correct this problem. I have no difficulty in passing urine, and no blood is evident, although i do suffer from time to time, the exruciating pain that you mention, and as a result, have had 3 spells in hospital, each time they were talking of putting a stent into me, although the consultant said he would prefer to wait for the results of my renagram, which iv'e now had. The results show that my left kidney is only functioning at 27% of its normal capacity My consultant here in the UK has said the success rate for the op is 85% so thats good news, and should be able to perform it using keyhole surgery, however if that is not possible, the he assures me that they have an ancient method which will leave a 7 inch scar on my back, I don't have a problem with that, although he tells me the ancient method does have a longer recovery rate, and more chance of infection, whilst in hospital i will have a stent in place, hopefully this will cure me, i will keep you informed of the outcome, Good luck I know exactly what you are going through
