microalbumin, cause? kidney biopsy - Kidney Disorders Message Board

Hi All,

I posted a bit ago re: elevated microalbumin (in several random tests and a 24-hr collection). I saw the endo on Monday - they did an ultrasound and I am seeing a nephrologist soon and getting a biopsy. She doesn't think it is related to diabetes as I've had it just a few years and have had good control, and so thinks I have a separate underlying condition.

She didn't speculate as to what could be going on.... Of course, this is driving me nuts... Not sure what else could be causing elevated microalbumin and minimal other symptoms (leg cramps, pins/needles, fatigue, metallic taste.).. Thoughts?

(ps: are kidney biopsys painful? should I plan on having someone else drive me home?)

My husband is expecting to have a kidney biopsy in a few weeks time if new treatment has not worked. Apart from the first needle puncture with local anaesthetic , theres the sensation of the procedure, hes assured there will be no pain. Its an overnight stay, and he will have to lay flat for at least 6 hours. Its done with scan/xray cover . We think the cause of his problems are long term medications for arthritis......... Good luck
