odd test results - help! - Kidney Disorders Message Board

hi everyone. i'm new here.

i'm a bit perplexed re: test results. a bit of background: i am 22 years old, T1 diabetic for 1 year, hypothyroid, very active, otherwise healthy. i had 2 elevated urine for microalbumin tests, spot albumin:creatinine ratio was 60. so my pcp ordered a 24 hr test. albumin:creatinine ratio came back at 199 and microalbumin was extremely elevated (did not exercise beforehand, nothing odd went on before tests...). she refered me to an endocrinologist... he thought that this elevation was NOT due to diabetes (only had it a year, have had good control) and was fairly confident it was due to an underlying kidney condition. so he referred me on to a nephrologist. unfortunately, i had to miss the appointment due to severe snow storms, and haven't been able to reschedule yet. today i got results in the mail from the endo, and the albumin:creatinine ratio is now 14.7 (abnormal >30), and all other urine/blood tests and ultrasound came back normal.

i am completely perplexed! (though happy this came back within the reference range). thoughts on why the results would vary so drastically?

i've been extremely fatigued and have had joint/muscle cramping esp. at night and in the morning. any thoughts on these sorts of results would be GREATLY appreciated. i'm not getting much on my googling (which is probably not very healthy....).

How much potassium do you take in on a daily basis - can be out of whack.

Hi, Get another apt with the nephrologist its important.

But it sounds as if you could have had an infection, or perhaps take an oral medication, both of which can cause this sort of problem.
My hubby has similar sort of thing. We think the long standing medications started the trouble & it was followed by a throat infection.
