Arrow Leaking protein - how can it make you feel physically?

If your kidneys were causing protein to leak out of your body through your urine (Proteinuria) - how can that make you feel physically? Because currently I feel crummy most days but I also am pregnant with suspected kidney problems. I have a high protein in urine count but my kidney biopsy failed to give me an "official" diagnosis even though they definitely saw abnormalities and such. Because there wasnt enough of one thing or another to diagnosis me it basically means I can't be treated because they dont know what to treat yet. I have to do 24 urine tests and blood tests every other week until I give birth which is a bummer but the worst thing is there is no end to the cruminess feeling in sight for probably at least 5 more months - UGGGHHH -

Anyways I have had a slew of symptoms but its hard to tell what is pregnancy, kidneys, or just normal.

I feel like I am going crazy because its so frustrating to feel like crap but yet they just cant find whats wrong with you but yet they also know something is wrong and they can kind of see it but still no help.

Anyways if any one knows what if leaking protein can cause symptoms, and if so, what I would be interested in learning more. I cant seem to find a lot of info on this on the web.

Re: Leaking protein - how can it make you feel physically?

The actual proteinuria doesn't cause any symptoms, really. It is a mechanical thing. If you have elevated levels of creatinine or urea, you may feel ill. Most people that are first diagnosed with it have no symptoms at all. It is done through a random urine test. Unless you have other elevated levels, I would suspect that a lot of your symptoms are pregnancy related.

Good luck.

You may want to consider seeking the advice of a maternal fetal medicine specialist. Your OB/GYN can probably provide you with someone or your local hospital may sponsor a program. They can decide what is kidney versus pregnancy, risk to the little tykes inside you, risk to you, treatments, etc.
