Kidney stone question

Okay, I get a KUB report back that says that I have "several small left renal calculi" grouped in the central portions of the left kidney with an aggregate measurement of approx. 7mm noted in the expected location of the left kidney.

Okay, can someone first of all interpret this for me as far as the size. Is this the size of all the stones together and are these two big to pass? Also, As someof you may have noted, I have posted on other boards that I have left ankle and foot swelling. I'm thinking that this could be the reason but wanted to ask to see if anyone else would put the two symptoms together since no ther Dr. can come up with an answer and I have been to SEVERAL different kinds of doctors in figuring this out. I knew that I had 1 stone in the left kidney that has been too big to pass and the fact that it hasn't moved in the last few years is making me wonder if maybe that stone has finally broken up into these small other pieces because I have been drinking more water and occassionally have some lemonade from time to time which they say to drink too.

So, any ideas as far as what to do about this? I don't see my doctor for another month or so. Also, is 7mm considered HUGE?

Hi Allie,

7mm is the total size of the stones. At least that's how I was reading it, maybe I am wrong. I'm not in pain. I do get "twinges" every now and then but other than that...not much else (Thank the Lord for that!)

I have been traveling so much that I am trying to stay in town long enough to make a Dr's visit and to be here in case I need to do something else. We just got into town last night and are leaving the country next month so, it os just easier to wait until we get back and hopefully things will start slowing down.

If they are reading as a total of 7mm they must be together...otherwise from what I understood is you have a 7 mm and tiny ones....i could be mistaken myself...

Keep drinking the fluids...are you straining your urine in case you pass any of them you can have it analyzed??
No not straining anything. I still have one of the stones I passed awhile back ago. I did have one tested in a lab and they said that it was 90% calcium Oxalate and the rest uric....I think it was uric, not sure though.

Re: Kidney stone question

I recently had several small kidney stones in my left kidney and a 7mm stone in my right kidney. The stones on the left passed on their own--the drs said the 7mm would not pass on its own, so I had lithotripsy to break it up. Your KUB report is confusing, I would call and ask exactly what it does mean--since smaller kidney stones can usually pass on their own and larger ones need medical attention.
