I've had a similar issue with my 84 year old father. He was on 25 different meds, seeing rats under his bed, and throwing anything he could get his hands on. Got in every doctors face, even though I didn't have power of attorney. My mom is not in good health so I had to do something.
He can now get out of the dementia ward at the nursing home if he wants, but he likes it there, the aides are fantastic. He is off many of his pills now. The doctors have no problem talking to me now.
The moral of the story, being a close relative, you know more about her than anyone else. Start asking questions ASAP. Keep going, even if you have to go to the top. Don't be afraid.
Good luck, I'll say a prayer.
