Blood in urine and generally feeling bad

I have been experiencing really odd symptoms and so far I've been passed along from doctor to doctor, specialist to specialist. My internist thinks I need to see a nephrologist because of my symptoms. I have back pain lower back, right above my buttocks. I have blood in my urine. I can't see it but every doctor I have been to has done a urine specimen and there is blood (for almost a year now). I go to the restroom all the time. I go 3-4 times before I leave for work and at least 5-6 times before I go to sleep. It's progressed from really bad to horrible now. There is a little discomfort. I was told I had a UTI, I was treated for that with antibiotics, then I went to a Natrupoathic doctor who treated me for 4mos for yeast, I don't think its yeast because I never got better I still go all the time. I have horrible breath. It's not hygeine but instead there's something wrong with me. I am not sure its my kidneys but having blood in my urine means something. I've been to a urologist who checked my bladder, I don't have any tumors or growths so its not my bladder but the urination isn't better. What is wrong with me?

Re: Blood in urine and generally feeling bad

I understand your frustration. I had a kidney infection about 6 weeks ago & am still experiencing health issues similar to you. I don't go all the time, instead I NEVER feel like I have to go. I have been really fatigued & have had blood in my urine often when I go to the doc, too. I have had an IVP & CT scan kidney stone protocol, but no stones & my kidneys checked out fine. I don't get it either. I am going to have a pelvic ultrasound to check my womanly parts to see if the pain is originating from there (I am having pain & cramping in my pelvic are & back & also pain in my left rib in my back). You can vent here anytime. Everyone has been really great listening to my compaints... A lot of us seem to be suffering from something while not knowing what it is... I will keep posting if I ever find out what is the problem...

maybe there is something in your blood or urine that causes irrations or inflamations in the bladder.

Re: Blood in urine and generally feeling bad

Hopesprings,

I actually thought the same, I had blood tests for metals and the lead, mercury, all came back normal. I am unsure what it is. I should admit that my grandmother died from kidney failure yet no one else in my family has had problems, also my BUN and creatinine levels came back irregular in March, yet now they are in the normal ranges.

Re: Blood in urine and generally feeling bad

To verify the problem is not yeast - there are at home yeast kits available in your local big name pharmacies.

Re: Blood in urine and generally feeling bad

I haven't been able to find one of the at home yeast kits. Do you know whether CVS or walgreens would work? I searched on line and found that low creatinine and BUN levels don't mean anything so the back aches and frequent urination and blood in my urine really doesn't seem to mean anything. Kidney failure seems to only be there if the levels are high mine aren't so I guess I will explore yeast further.

Both of those should carry the test kits. Ask the pharmacist, they may be hidden.

They scanned for stones?

Re: Blood in urine and generally feeling bad

Well I am glad I came to this board. I went to the doctor last week for my annual physical and sure enough, I had blood in my urine (microscopic). I have had this before but the doctor had told me not to worry. Well, now that I am older (59) I want to get it checked out. I went to a urologist this morning and he has scheduled me for a CT scan and then a cystoscopy which I am afraid to have done. Is it painful? He said it isn't but I am not sure I believe that.

I am very frightened as I have always been pretty healthy.

Thanks for listening,

Has the possibility that you may have interstitial cystitis been discussed with you? I have this & always have blood in my urine as well as a frequency problem.

No, they haven't said anything about this but I have suffered from UTI's in the past and I am dreading having the cystoscopy done.

Thanks for replying!

Re: Blood in urine and generally feeling bad

Don't worry about having the cystoscopy done. I had one several years ago because of an infection that wouldn't clear up. They numb the area first and you really don't feel much at all and no pain afterwards. The whole procedure doesn't take long at all. Not to worry - you will be fine and your doctor is right - not painful. My doctor was very nice, told me what he was doing and he and the nurse asked me several times if I was doing OK AND I was doing fine. Good luck. It is normal to be worried and scared, but this test is not a big deal.
