Creatinine is a byproduct of muscle metabolism. So if you exercise a lot or have higher muscle mass, that will mean your cr. will be higher if you have a kidney problem. The Cr. is simply a general measure of how well your kidneys are filtering, so it doesn't really mean anything in and of itself. It is something that is always there and it is a handy marker to double check kidney function when it is elevated. It's not like blood sugar with diabetes where it is important to get it down, or potassium, which can seriously harm you. The best you can do is to keep well hydrated (as long as your kidneys work well enough to maintain your fluid balance), eat properly, keep your blood pressure in check, and get some exercise.
