New Kidney Stone - Kidney Disorders Message Board

I have a 4 mm, non-obstructive, mid-pole kidney stone. No symptoms. It was found during a routine exam.

My dr. recommends doing nothing. He says people live with them everyday. If it moves, then I will need help.

But I've read online that it's best to drink lots of water & walk to help move it along. Everthing else I've read about sudden, severe pain are concerning too.

I'm confused. Please advise.

Drink lots of water and keep your hips elevated and it will move. The reason he says do nothing is by being mid pole and at the size it is, it should pass without incidence. I would monitor yourself for fevers though, this can be the sign that it is starting to obstruct. Try not to drink dyed juices or cranberry juice unless it is white as you should monitor for visible blood in the urine. Good luck but you should be fine.

what does mid-pole mean?

hello sir!
My ultrasound reports showing that my left kidney showing hydronephrosis.
there is ecogenic focus of 8.5mm in left ureter
and swelling in the left kidney.
my urinary bladder is destended.
prostate gland is not enlarged.
and seminal vescels are symmytrical.
is it necessary to have a surgery.give some discription about my condition & medicine prescibtion.

I had about the same ordeal .Mine was 7 and left kidney ureter with swelling in my kindney also.It will have to be removed or have lipotripsy done.Drinks lots of water and see your doctor .Dont let it go.It is blocking your lidney and making it drain slow or not at all.Of course im no doctor so besure and ask your doctor all these questions.If you get a fever,or stinky urine let your doctor know asap
