Hi to all,

I am new to posting here and am in the middle of investigations for declining kidney function. I am very frightened, particularly as I dont know how quickly my GFR will or wont deteriorate. It is 57 at the moment and has lost 4 points since May this year. That in itself is alarming. You guys here have a wealth of experience and advice........ what can I do to help myself with this ??
I take beta-blocker medication for arrythmia left over from a cardiac arrest 20 years ago, and a statin for raised blood fats. I feel I could more at home, any tips please?

What kind of diet do you follow. Protein and potassium can strain your kidneys as can alcohol.

I confess that I have probably eaten too much meat over the past eight or nine months. I gave up dairy foods in August 2006 because my first ever cholesterol check revealed high blood fats. So I thought I was smart to eat more meat; sadly I was unaware at the time that my kidney function was waning, and although the blood values were declining my GP always told me they were normal. It was only recently when my GFR dipped that he suddenly took notice. I used to take pot'magnesium supplements a couple of years ago because I thought it would aid arrythmia. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I also dont drink above 2 or 3 glasses of alcohol a year. What I have read about CKD has robbed me of sleep and I cant wait to get to the nephrologist on 2 Nov to at least sit down and talk about it.
