my 18 year old daughter - Kidney Disorders Message Board

I have a 18 year old daughter who is currently away for college. She had passed a kidney stone about a year ago and they said she had one more in her left kidney. Well she has been having constant pain in both kidneys and they seem to feel it's phantom pains. Also, over the past week she broke out in hives, her face and hands swelled up. This could all just have happened at the same time, but I was just curious on what everyone thought. I am trying to get her home to take to the Dr. on Friday. It's hard for me to understand her pain, but I do believe her when she is holding her sides saying her kidneys hurt. But why would they both be hurting? Thanks for listening. Kim

Well, I can't really help too much because I have never had kidney stones but I had hydronephrosis in my right kidney. Well it became so distended and blocked that my left kidney showed a mild case of hydronephrosis. It was only because it was compensating for the right one. So, perhaps she is having much trouble with her kidney with the stone it in that her "good" kidney is compensating. I may be totally wrong but I thought I would throw that out there!

The pain may also be ovarian. In younger females ovarian pain appears slightly higher then in older females. You may want to have her checked by an OB-GYN.
