Vein Mapping

Hi all. I had a question. I am scheduled to go thru a test called "Vein Mapping" of the upper extremities.

I have kidney nephropathy due to diabetes. My creaine level has been anywhere from 2.0 to 2.7 and my kidney is functioning at approximately 30 percent. Also just to note I was born with kidney as well.

My nephrologist feels I should have the test done in order to place a fistula for dialysis; and I will ultimately need a kidney transplant.

What is involved in the test itselt. I was told that it should take about 2 hours to complete.

Thanks for any input on the test.

Re: Vein Mapping

The vein mapping is an ultrasound. That's what I took my mom to. It didn't take that long. I think it was only 30 min or so. Not sure why yours would be that long. The technician basically focused on her left arm and took ultrasound pictures in various spots of her upper arm.Mom also has kidney failure due to diabetes. Her creatine is 3.5 and she has a GFR of 13%. It was 15% three months ago. Her neph told her to schedule fistula with vascular surgeon. That will be in one to two months. He wants her to start dialysis in 4 months. Mom is scared but she said she will do what she has to. good luck
