| Kidney Disease or Not???
I have been struggling with autoimmune disorders and fibromyalgia for close to 15 years. In the spring of 2006, it was discovered I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease. I take, on a daily basis, 88mcg Synthroid, 900mg Neurontin, 200mg Plaquenil, 300mg Ultram, 3mg Lunesta, 5mg Clarinex. In December 2007, it was discovered I had hypercalcemia (10.5). Further tests indicated it is not my parathyroids causing the problem. I also have high cholesterol (284) and high serum albumin (5.3). 24 hour urine calcium test showed hypocalciuria (71 mg). January 2008, I thought I had a UTI (so did my MD). I have since been on 2 rounds of antibiotics - Cipro and Macrobid. Neither have helped. I have had constant right flank and back pain and excessive urination (20-30 times/day), generalized itching, extreme fatigue, confusion, lightheadedness, headaches, muscle twitching and night cramps. Most recent urinalysis shows: ketones (trace), blood (small - 1+), protein (30 - 1+), nitrite (negative), leukocyte esterase (Large - 3+), squamous epithelial cells (>/=28), WBC (>60), bacteria (>50), RBC (10-20), Hyaline crystals (Occasional) and amorphous crystals identified. All CBC tests were normal except MCHC (36.3 g/dL). Three additional urinalysis showed WBC, but no bacteria. Using a GFR calculator shows chronic stage 2 kidney disease with the following inputs: serum creatinine = .85, age = 50, race = caucasian, gender = female. I've had a renal ultrasound which shows: right kidney 11.2cm, left kidney 10.9cm. There is minimal fullness in both left and right renal pelvis. Isn't it true that the left kidney should be larger than the right? One other interesting recent blood test was consistent with past infection of parvovirus B19 (IgG was 6.0 - IgM was .1).
I think I have glomerulonephritis, but I can't get any doctors to listen to me. Please send advice as to how to deal with all of this and get physicians to act. Thank you.
