Misdiagnosis??!!
I'm a 22 year old female. About 4 years ago I went to the hospital with SEVERE pain in the lower left side of my abdomen. The doctor did blood tests and an MRI and diagnosed me with polycystic ovarian disease. A follow-up visit to my (crackpot) doctor left me diagnosed with insulin resistance (mind you she did NO tests whatsoever, just walked in, sat down and said, you have pcod caused by insulin resistance). I was given no information or diet instructions or anything. My family doctor (not the crackpot) put me on glucophage which made me really sick, so I stopped taking it. I dealt with on and off with severe pain for the last four years, and absolutely constant pressure in the area and just generally feeling run down and crappy. Yesterday, I woke up at 4am with the same (actually worse) severe pain I had the first time I went to the hospital, except this was also in my lower back as well as my lower left side and groin. They ran blood tests (the type of tests and results I was told nothing about, so I'm assuming everything came back normal on that), and did an ultrasound. They didn't tell me I had kidney stones, only that I had no signs of EVER having pcod. The doctor said it COULD be a kidney stone but didn't do any further testing or diagnose anything. He did say they found blood when they dipped my urine but that it wasn't visible. I was given a rx for vicodin (most of which I've had to take today to get through work) and told not to have sex, to drink water and rest and then sent me home. My lower left side of my back still hurts very bad, and my abdomin still hurts as well, though the vicodin takes the edge off. I'm scared to death of being in so much pain again and I am absolutely livid about the misdiagnosis. I'm drinking a ton of water (I never drink soda, once in a while tea(green), but I drink over 10 glasses of water a day). I have an appointment on the 9th w/gyn to confirm wrong diagnosis and hopefully get the right one. Does anyone have any feedback or advice? I have had frequent urination over the last few years and recently had problems with feeling like I have to pee but not being able to. There has also been blood in my urine since I got home from the hospital. I'm just scared and could use some advice and don't know what to do from here. I don't think I can stand the pain too much longer as I am almost out of pain meds which I hate taking anyway but can't deal any other way. Please help, even just to tell me that not all doctors are incompetent like the ones we have around here. *hugs* to all of you that are going through any type of scary medical crisis, and thanks for reading this, I know it's really long.
