Normal amount of urine passed in 24 hour urine collection?

What is considered "normal"? When I did my 24 hour urine collection, I went 1800 ml...I'm guessing thats good? B/c when I was in the hospital late last year I was only peeing 400 ml a day LOL and they were worried about my kidneys and all...but I was just really really dehydrated. (and they refused to give me water for the first 5 days...idiots! So I was only drinking 3 little milks a day and little sips to take my meds...and they wondered why I wasn't peeing much...LOL)

I drank 3 liters though that day...so is 1800 ml good? I have to drink a lot b/c I get bladder and kidney infections a lot.

Re: Normal amount of urine passed in 24 hour urine collection?

I passed 2010 ml in my 24 hour test. The doc said it was "Okay but would like to have seen more".

The report from the lab has the volume almost in the middle with it closer to the "decreased risk" for stones.

Re: Normal amount of urine passed in 24 hour urine collection?

When I did the 24 hour test I went 1700mls.
I had to find a metric converter to see how much that was,
and one cup = 237mls, so, one quart, (4 cups) is approx 948mls, and 2 quarts
would be approx 1896mls.
I read that an average adult should urinate 1.5 liters (6.3 cups) a day.

Dunno,

Why worry?? That's good that you are drinking and urinating that amount. There's nothing wrong with that, unless your doc has told you to restrict your fluid intake due to declining kidney function, congestive heart failure, or lung problems because you could easily get fluid overloaded. If you are perfectly healthy, and these ailments do not apply to you, then you are fine!!

Re: Normal amount of urine passed in 24 hour urine collection?

Hey pinkpixies,

I have a question for you. Did you just drink that amount for your test? Is that the normal amount of fluid you usually drink in a day? The reason I ask, is because if you just drank that amount so your test would "look good", then essentially, your doc is not getting a true reading on your usual daily fluid intake.

Please, don't "over drink" so your test can look good for the doc. He needs to know the "true" amount you are consuming. You are only sabotaging yourself if the 24 hour urine test is for kidney stone risk. If you normally don't drink that amount, then you should inform your doc and redo the 24 hour urine and just act like it's a normal day for you while consuming fluids.

If they are testing you for stone risk factors, they need to know "the truth", otherwise, your doc will think everything is fine and in the end, it will be you that pays if you end up with more stones, or a new stone. Make sense??

Re: Normal amount of urine passed in 24 hour urine collection?

I wish I was drinking heaps,I never get thirsty. I always slept thru the night , now I have to get up two to three times. My protein was 2100 mg for the 24 hrs my creatinine was 24mmol and my protein/creatinine ratio was 89 mg/mmol. I don't really know what it all means.

If I remember correctly from my appointmen...between 150 mg and 2500 mg is a grey area for total protein...above 2500 mg means something is seriously wrong...I think...I forget the creatinine levels...
