Smile GFR reading

Hello everyone! I had a blood test and my GFR came back at 42. I'm not sure how to interpret this, as my internest didn't mention that part of the test, she just wants me to go to a Rhuemy, then back to her. Should I be concerned about the GFR reading? On my test paper it said I'm in kidney disease range. Any kind of information always greatly appreciated! Thanks to all and have a painfree night!

Re: GFR reading

HI-

I work in dialysis and a GFR of 30-66 suggests chronic kidney disease, stage 3. Can you have it checked again? I personally think you should follow-up with a nephrologist, to moniter this. How was your lab test otherwise? Do you have a copy? Were the creatinin and BUN normal?

I would followup on this.

Leea

Re: GFR reading

leea: Thank you for answering. My creatinine is 1.4, my bun is 16, my protein is 8.4. I originally had the test for autoimmune issues. The test also shows positive for Sjorgrens syndrome. I'm surprised the internest didn't say anything about the kidney reading but she may have a reason for just sending me to a rhuemy. Yes, I will follow up. This is depressing. Thank you for responding & your kindness.

Re: GFR reading

hi.... I would definately follow up with a NEPHROLOGIST. They are the only ones who really know what is going on with kidney disease. I had a kidney transplant 3 months ago and my creatinine fluctuates between 1.0 - 1.3 and my tx team is thrilled (as am I). The problem is the protein in the urine... you gotta find out why you are spilling protein....

Please do not settle for any other doctor.... see a nephrologist. I was going to the same gyn and same family doctor for 20 years... they both knew I had kidney problems (heck, I had to get a tubal when I was 19 to make sure I didn't get pregnant after I got married because of my kidney problems). I thought they were monitoring it.... but I was wrong... please dont chance it!

Let us know how things turn out okay!

Re: GFR reading

all i can add to this is DITTO on what the above posters told you. you DO need to be seeing a neph, someone who knows kidney disease. your labs would indicate a possible form of kidney disease going on that just needs further evaluation/definition. i am not sure just why your doc actually chose to send you to your rheumy doc for kidney issues, but you DO need to talk to that doc about getting into see a nephrologist ASAP. it IS in your best interest right now, trust me. good luck and please keep us posted. marcia

donnia, congrats on having a successful Tx. my son has a tx liver and its been a dream now for over 8 years. good luck.
