| Re: Enlarged Kidneys
just how did they determine your kidneys were enlarged? by palpation or an actual ultrasound? with the type of kidney disease you can get from diabetes,i don't believe(not 100% certain tho)that actual enlargement is really a huge symptom. unless they do an actual ultrasound you really wont know exactly why the actual enlargement is present. there could be many other types of kidney diseases, such as a cystic type, that would most defintely cause enlargement. you just really need to know for certain if you have not already done so,just what is causing that enlargement to even be there ya know? an ultrasound using the doppler can look at the kidneys themselves and also check bloodflow thru them too. this test would be a good one for you to have right now.
how is your lab work? any out of range labs yet or any protien in your urine? knowing those two things would help. i would ask for an ultrasound so you and your doc can actually "see' how your kidneys really look in there. i have polycystic kidney disease and my labs are amazingly all within normal ranges and have been since i found out i even had this all my life, but didn;t find out til i was actually 40. but despite those great labs,my kidney ultrasounds show a hugely different story. they are currently over three times their normal size and just covered both inside and out with poly globs of huge cysts. you just really need to know why the actual enlargement is present and what is causing it to begin with. i just really don;t think, but like i said, not totally certain, that diabetic kidney disease, espescially in the early stages actually enlarges kidneys. if nothing else, see if your doc can refer you to a good nephrologist for monitoring.
please let me know ho things are going and what ou find out. something just doesn't sound right with that particular dx to me anyways. marcia
