| Re: urine result shows too much protien
The filters in your kidneys are supposed to stop protein from being lost from your blood. Protein loss indicates that you may have some damage to the filters. Usually a 24hr protein collection is done to see how much protein you are losing in a 24hr period. Normal loss is around 150 mg . If your protein loss exceeds 1500 mg a day you would normally be referred to a nephrollogist. from 1500 to 3000 the referral becomes more urgent. Over 3000mg and you are considered to have nephrotic syndrome . Usually in cases where protein loss exceeds 2500 mg nephrollogists may ask you to have a kidney biopsy to try to determine the exact cause. Hope this helps,Ron.
