stone symptoms but no stone on xray, u/s? - Kidney Disorders Message Board

Hello. I have had a few stones in the past so know a bit about what to expect. My previous stones were huge and "stuck" in my ureter and required the doc to go up and grab the stones with a basket (didn't have to laser them).

I am having the left flank discomfort again. And I seem to be urinating much less frequently. I did a urinalysis and the doc said there was microscopic blood in the urine (my period started 24 hours later so not sure if it had anything to do with that).

Doc sent me for xray and ultrasound on friday. there are no stones present on either test. Will see the doc again this week to discuss.

Is it possible I have a stone and it just didn't show up? I'm still having the flank discomfort and urine issues.

Thanks for any info/advice you might have.

Hi there, I had my first kidney stone when I was 16, and it did not show up in the Xray, they told me certain types of stones because of what they are made of, will not show up in xrays and sometimes not even in cat scans. If your not having the EXCRUCIATING pain like Im sure you remember from having stones other times, its possible that this is just a veryy small stone. I had one like that yesterday actually.
