Saving my Kidney Stone? - Kidney Disorders Message Board

How does one save a passed Kidney Stone for the Dr. to see? I passed a stone early this morning after having gone to the ER the day before with severe pain in back and lower abdomen. I had blood in my urine so they gave me some wonderful drugs for the pain and they gave me a strainer and told me to see a urologist, but didn't tell me how to save the stone. Should I put it in water, urine or dry? I have an appointment with a Urologist in two days. Thanks for any advice anyone has to give.

Hi! My husband passed a kidney stone at home. He put it in a jar, and placed it in the frig for the night. I guess they test it to see if they can tell what caused it. Good luck to you! I'm sure you feel much better now. With my husband, he was like a new man almost immediately.

I guess it's too late for your stone, but for others...
You can put a stone in just about anything that will keep dust and dirt off. A zip lock bag, clean pill bottle, clean film can ... you get the idea. It is not necessary to refridgerate it or put it in any kind of liquid. Your doctor will send it off for chemical testing. Usually they are interested in seeing if it is a uric acid stone or a calcite stone. Anything that will keep it reasonably clean will do.
