Post kidney stone pain

I have a 1cm stone that was diagnosed in December, but apparently in December it was 5mm,and by January would it grow,or could it have been the ultrasound test showed more than the cat scan or vice versa?Anyways,it's July now,and there's days it,no kidding, lasts constant for 7hrs being the longest sharp pain in my front and back.I have no pain killers, and haven't taken anything except been living with it since December. Now you guys obviously know the pain I'm talking about and when it lasts for hrs it doesn't come and go in waves like they say.Mine is constant pain.4 days at least out of the week with a couple or more hrs a day depending what I'm doing.I find that if I get angry or I think about something that makes me mad it flares.Or if I bend over to fold clothes or empty the dishwasher, help me god!Does anyone have that happen in certain situations?

Also what I'm curious to know,so I'm not feeling alone,is,do you guys have sharp pain in you front of your kidney during an attack? And I mean it's kind of under your ribs and radiates to your lower back? And do any of you have a feeling along your abdomen that doesn't ever go away and pinches during an attack?I'm trying to figure the abdominal thing out to see if it's related to the stone or the bladder.

But sometime this month I'm getting the stent put in and being put out for that procedure, and having the stone blasted 1 week later.I still don't know what type of stone it is but I know that it's a painful one.

I've been dealing with chronic stones for 7 1/2 years. Yes I have the same type of pain you do. I have had several stones blasted and then a stent put in to help pass the tiny stones from the blast. They will test your stones when you past them.. I have had all types of stones possible. They have told me that I could not produce stones as fast as I do but I have proved them wrong. Some of my test show nothing and others show a few stones . It can grow and you might have more. The only way to know for sure is for your doctor to go in there and see. Is your doctor giving you a hard time about pain meds.. That has always been my problem.. I've been labled a drug abuser even when I have had documents to prove I have stone problems. Let me know if I can help in anyway.

I just recently last week found out that I have a 3mm kidney stone in my right kidney. I have had lower back pain for two weeks and nausea. The doctor said that I would pass this on my own and to drink plenty of water. I was given an antibiotic and also a steroid and muscle relaxer to help with the pain. My question is – does this small size normally cause such ill feelings? Any input we would appreciated.

bruised,

You are not alone. I have been a 'stone producer' for 13 years. I have passed at least 30 1mm to 3mm stones and hundreds of smaller. Pain: when I passed my first I thought I was having the worse gas attack of my life. Intense sharp pain that started in the kidney area and sslloowwlly moved down and across the FRONT of my abdomen. I don't know if it is referred pain or what, but my sharp pain (pain from passing a stone) always feels like stomach pain at first, then moves lower. The pain from a blockage is alwys in flank area and a more dull pain.

sherid,

In my expeerience, shape has more to do with the pain of passing than size. I passed 1 very smooth stone (re-formed from litho sand) that was 5 - 7mm and didn't feel it at all until it was 'spit out' (anyone who has passed a large on knows what I mean - putoee). I have also pased one that was less than 0.5mm that felt like it was ripping me apart all the way through. I looked at it with a microscope (I'm funny that way) and it looked exactly like a little tiny, razor-sharp arrow head. So, YES, small stone can definitely hurt as much or more than large ones.
