Kidney surgery and removal of rib
I previously left a message regarding a UPJ obstruction that I had that has left me with chronic pain. Since I posted that topic, I've been hospitalized for the pain. After undergoing a ton of tests and being on pain medicine, we still had no answers to the cause of the pain. I had to go to a pain clinic after I was released. What I found out was suprising to me. During the first surgery that I had, the doctor removed my 12th rib. I had no idea prior to surgery that he was going to do this. During the removal of the rib, he cut and removed the surrounding nerves. This is the cause of my pain! The nerves are growing back and trying to find the missing nerves. This is very frustrating and the only relief that I have is after I endure painful shots to block the pain for a short time. I've had to series of these and the last time, I got 6 shots in between my ribs and was so sore that I ended up crying. I talked to my urologist after the first series of shots (he's not the dr. who did the first surgery). He said that the nerves could have been "peeled" from the rib and left in there. I was so mad!! Just to think that all of these years of pain could have been avoided!! I've talked to a couple of lawyers to see if I could possibly get some restitution for the medical bills, loss of work, pain and suffering etc. And I will have to undergo these painful shots if I want any relief. Has anyone ever had an experience like this? Or does anyone have any suggestions? Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
