Re: how long do i wait for a kidney stone to pass
When I had lithotripsy for a 1.2 inch stone, it took 11 excruciating days for the stone to pass. I should have called my urologist and gone back in for another blast - the stone was high in the first place and it was not broken up well. What finally passed was huge!
I have also waited 9 weeks for another stone to pass on its own because I didn't have health insurance and it would cost $5,000 to go to the ER for just pain control. I don't know about you, but I just don't have that much money lying around for a couple of hours of pain relief - although believe me there were times when I almost gave up and went anyway.
I would think the worst thing besides the pain in waiting for the stone pass would be the possibility of obstruction and hydronephrosis - maybe call your urologist or MD and ask how long you should wait before intervention?
Good luck and so sorry - I know I haven't really answered your question. I hope it's passed on its own by now.
