HELP--Went to Dr. about painful urination and pain lower right side. UA showed no infection, but had ultra sound and CT scan. Ultra sound normal, but my doctor just said CT showed "blockage in tube from kidney to bladder". Made appointment with urologist for 2 weeks from now. Do I have cancer and they're not telling me? Is there such a thing as a blockage and do they not want to alarm me? I'm terrified !!
Absolutely, blockages can happen and they can happen for all sorts of reasons. Why are you trying to jump on the cancer band wagon? The likelihood of that is very small. It could be due to some past infection, a bit of scarring, or even something like a small partial stone. I believe that this sort of thing is often stented (a stent put in to stretch and keep open the tube). The stent and or treatment may not be comfortable, but it should be minor.
Best of luck and keep us posted. Try not to worry too much.
Thank you for the reassurances, but I thought a CT shows the difference between cancer and non-cancer? I think it does and I don't know if my doctor would tell me before I see the urologist. This is the first time I saw this doctor as my regular doctor was not there that day. I tend to panic easily. I'm going to call him this morning and go in to see him again and try to get more info. P.S. I've had traces of blood in my urine on and off for 15 years but it goes away and I've also had the same pain off and on in my lower front for 15 years. This is the first time a doctor wanted to check it out.
I hope this relaxes you a bit too. Sometimes, people have trace blood in their urine and the cause is never found. Yet their kidney function is normal and nothing ever comes of it. There is a very strong possibility that what you have is totally benign. Maybe requiring some sort of treatment (stretch, stent, whatever) but it should be fine.
I went to my doctor yesterday to get more info. He gave me the report and it's not cancer, it's that my euretha(?) has a kink in it and something about the bladder being collapsed. Also "left kidney severe hydronephrosis with small rim of renal tissue". He said the urologist will probably put in a stent. I'm so relieved, but what is the procedure for installing the stent? Are you awake or asleep. I see the urologist on 5/25 My GP also said since I've had a trace of blood occasionally off and on, I could've been born with this and it's acting up now. I'm still confused, but relieved. Is a nephrologist better than a urologist? P.s. The severe pain is on my right lower front (where appendix would be if I had one) and he said it's not related, it seems to be a mystery about this pain. What could this possibly be? I've had a total hysterectomy long ago and surgery for adhesions.
Typically a nephrologist deals with damage to the kidney, while a urologist deals with issues regarding the "plumbing" portions of that system - so the bladder and tubes connected to the kidney. The hydronephrosis is most likely due to the kink and blockage and should resolve, at least somewhat, once the kink is fixed. While I don't know that much about putting one in (had one put in while getting a kidney transplant, but that was done during the surgery) but I do know that when they take them out, they simply go up the ureter and pull it out. It is not the most comfortable procedure, but it's not that bad either.
As for the pain, could it be a re-occurance of the adhesions? Most kidney issues, except for stones, are not painful.
Maybe someone could reasure me some how on my problem. This is the 5th day on an atibiotic for a UTI. My urine seem more clear, but I just don't feel right yet. I have a dull ache in the left kidney area at times and the bladder seems to have a little pressure yet. I'm so tired of this because the last time I had one,( 6 month ago and only ones in my life) I was normal in 3 days. I freek out because I am a breast cancer survivor and thoughts go to that imediately.
Can symtoms of a UTI last 5 days? I have 2 days to go on the atibiotics. Thanks
I had the same thing, said it was from birth. I had a pyleoplasty done, painful, but not too bad. Although I'm not sure if mine worked, still having problems with pain in my lower left side. Trying to get back to doctor now. Best of luck to you.
