Needles BIG why?

Why do the needles for dialysis have to be so big,.. they started me out on a smaller guage, but want to go to a larger guage? thanks, brent

I think the needles are so large because of the volume of the fluid that they need to process. Smaller needles means less fluid and less processing of the blood.
