I had a right nephrectomy in 2000 and immediately upon recovery noticed a significant flank bulge. My doctor said this was an unfortunate side effect of my nephrectomy. I learned to live with it, purchasing clothes that would hide the bulge that extends only on my right side and wrapping around my flank.
Now nearly 12 years later, I notice a sharp "muscular" pain upon some movement, especially when lying down, or sitting up. This pain is in the precise place that my kidney had be located. Could this somehow be related to possible subcostal nerve damage to my right flank that is aggravated by my age? I am now nearly 59 years old, and when I experience the shooting pain, it takes my breath away, and sometimes makes it nearly impossible to stand from a low seating position like a couch.

Yes.I donated a kidney in 1988 and I have the same pain, etc. you have. It is terrible and sometimes I have to bend over to walk. No doctor seems to care about it. What do you do?
