| Renal heart and liver failure
Dear Boarders,
My father is admitted to the ICU currently for renal disorder and im afraid that the doctor will recommend dialysis. The case is as follows:-
Age 57 years, History of blood pressure and diabetes and bypass surgery 3 years earlier. medications for kidney, bp, diabetes and heart were already continuing but since he was feeling uneasy ( ard two weeks back) and there was a visible discomfort in terms of water accumulation in the stomach area and swelling of the feet which i guess in medical terms is called oedema. however, we consulted our usual nephrologist he merely increased the dosage of medicines. But inspite of that there was no relief so we took him to another hospital in emergency and there another nephrologist was consulted and he opined that the condition was due to over prescription of medicines and he reduced dosage. The test they did in the hospital also revealed liver damage. thereafter the condition improved a bit but 3 days ago we observed that almost no urine was passed for about 24 hrs. We consulted our family doctor the cardiologist since he is aware of the medical history he recommended to admit him since non urinating would shoot up creatinine level (from 2.5 it went upto 4.5) which would shut down the kidney altogether. So currently he is under observation at icu and though urine levels are relatively increasing though insufficient and creatinine is lowering (currently 3.6) the doctor is still hinting at dialysis. Sadly our usual nephrologist is in chg here now and i suspect that he might be vindictive that we consulted another neph. i dont want my dads life to become one where he is constantly at mercy of hospital and dialysis. its a horrible feeling and making me distressed.
please advise. whether even with decreasing levels of creatine whether dialysis is reqd and whether i can still take a second opinion whilst dads in icu.
