Hi,

I was wondering if anyone with chronic kidney disease has taken Prolia. It's a new drug for osteoporosis. I have CKD, Stage 4, egfr of 19. My doctor mentioned that if I develop osteoporosis she recommends it. After looking at the side effects and reading user reviews, I am extremely hesitant to take it. I am on a low calcium and low potassium diet and the results from my recent bone density scan showed beginning signs of osteoporosis.

I would appreciate any responses. Since the medication is administered as a six-month shot, I want to be sure I feel comfortable with doing it.

Hi Grayfox. As you know, Ihave a transplant, but I do take prolia. My rheumatologist really likes it and has told me that it is the only bone builder that has been tested on kidney patients (I think stage 3 ckd). My calcium is a bit low but that may be due to diet, and not the prolia. I have been on it for a year and a bit and have had no side effects.
