Hello all,

I had an ultrasound done last year that showed a cyst on my kidney. At the time, my gastro doc told me that was common and nothing to worry about so I forgot about it. Recently, I've been having pains in my side, hip area and lower back on that side. My question is, are kidney cysts common and harmless or can they change and cause problems?

Any advice/info would be appreciated.

I had an MRI about 7 years ago to look for problems with my pancreas. The report said I had several cysts on my kidneys. My doctor said kidney cysts were quite common. I looked up info on the internet and it pretty much said the same thing.

I haven't had any type of symptoms to indicate any problems so I've just lived with them. However, if I did feel something strange, I would ask if the cysts could be causing the problem.
