High blood pressure and one kidney

Hi Everyone,
I am not sure wether to post this in the kidney area or high blood pressure. I really just need to talk to people that have something in common as I feel like I am moaning about my health all the time with friends and family!!

I am going through a phase of discovery at the moment. I went to the Dr a month or so a go as I could not stop going to the toilet, or feeling I need to go. She tested my urine over 24 hours and I had a high amount of protein in there, as well as a GFR of 58 (looking back at old blood tests this has been low before, but past Dr's never picked up). Got sent for an ultrasound and I only have one kidney! I have been refered to a specialist who I am seeing in a month.

In the last month I have been experiencing bouts of dizziness (like being on a boat), with strange light headed feeling in between. I went back to my Dr and she said it may be an ear problem but tested my blood bressure and it is 150/100. So now I am going to do a 24 hour blood pressure test before I see the specialist.

I have also been getting nauseous, lower back pain and night sweats on occasion. I am a 32 year old female, in a healthy weight range. I excercise and eat well. I also have hypothyroidism (controlled), allergies and rheaumatoid arthritis, of which I have not had a flare up for about a year (thank goodness)

I really wanted to know if anyone else had experienced these symptoms with kidney disease. Do you think it is just an ear problem or if the high blood pressure is contributing to my strange off balance feeling!!

Thanks for your help

Re: High blood pressure and one kidney

I have recently been feeling the same kind of diziness, lately, along with increased backaches, funny taste in mouth, sleep issues, etc., all associated with renal insufficiency. My GFR is no where near as low as yours (last measured at about 78), and I am also a fifty year old male, with a possible cause of kidney issues being from heavy metal contamination.
I do believe that dizziness can be kidney related, as the medical literature bears this out. I am, if anything, in the early stages of kidney disease, and it is a very frustrating time, so I feel for you. Btw, my blood pressure has been very good, even on the lower end, which my pcp said might be related to my adrenals, which heavy metal toxicity can affect. I have had polyuria for over a year and a half, but no proteinuria or Hemaetinuria. Keeping my fingers crossed. Hope you get some answers. I have gotten few.
