I just picked up my kidney imaging results and it says I have 28% function in left kidney and 72% in my right. Also says the left kidney is small. The right kidney appears normal. Says small left kidney with reduced renal function compatible with intrinsic renal disease. What does this mean my overal kidney function is? What stage would this put me in?
Staging of kidney disease is done more by blood tests- BUN, creatinine, and estimated glomerular filtration rate (EGFR). Also by kidney biopsy. I think it would be best to call your Dr to discuss your test results, and you will probably be referred to a nephrologist, especially if this is a new problem. It will be important to figure out the cause of your kidney problem, so preventive measures can keep it from getting worse.

Have you had this test before? Kidneys are rarely 50/50 and this could be something you've always had. In which case there is no disease. Talk to your doc.
Let me explain more. I had a uretur reunplant done 3 years ago. I am now a brushfire stone former. I know the blockage of the ureter caused this but haven't been told I have kidney disease before. I went to a nephrologist who referred me for the scan. I'm just wondering how to intemperate the results and if this is progressive?
While there may be some damage to the kidney where the blockage occurred, your other kidney seems to have compensated. Is your blood work ok? One kidney can take up the work of two and you can lead a long and productive life with only one kidney without it being considered kidney disease. There are many transplant patients and donors that can attest to this.
Yes I've had blood work done in the past and it was fine. I am in the process of having more done and a 24 hour urine test done. I've been perusing exploring this more lately as far as what might be going on bc I have been living with chronic pain since my ureter reinplant almost 3 years ago now. I also have started producing lots of brushite kidney stones since my surgery.
