just wondering

Can anyone explain a little about PKD. My doctor told me last week I had a mild case of it, along with other issues. What does that mean? I know I have MULTIPLE cysts on my kidney, adrenal glad, liver, etc, and am in very much pain, I also know sometimes a transplant is required, but I'm sure that's much later. I don't know where mine came from but probably my dad, because I was 'blessed' with so many other issues from him.

Re: just wondering

PKD means poly (many) cystic (cysts) on the kidneys. It is genetic and very gradually over a person's lifetime, may reduce their kidney function. That is measured by urine and blood tests and monitored carefully. Transplants or dialysis may be required at some point, but not always, and if so, usually late in the course. PKD can cause anemia and loss of protein in the urine, which can cause fatigue and swelling in the feet and ankles.
