Need advice about my Dad please

Hi, my Dad is really ill, type 2 diabetes resulting in all the classic, amputation, bad eyes etc. but the worst now is the end stage kidney failure and all the medical and otherwise complications that go with it. They started him on dialysis 2 days ago following another collapse the other day and all his levels were sky high and he was vomiting all over the place. I can't believe it has taken them so long to start the treatment, he is so bad I fear it will be too late for him to recover. He cannot stand, transfer or walk, confined to the hospital bed with bed sores. Will the dialysis work and help him to recover enough to get home? He is only 67.
Any thoughts appreciated. I am being fairly realistic and realise he may die quite soon, to be honest anything would be better than seeing him go through this. He nearly died last month, we were told to prepare for the worst but he rallied round, went home but without the treatment he just faded away again. It's really hard for my Mum too as she is disabled and cannot care for him properly at home any more if he doesn't get much better. Has anyone been through something similar?
