| Need opinion: Neurosurgeon said HIP but
Hi. I am 38. I saw a Neurosurgeon last September 04. I had severe back spasms, mid and lowerback. They are controlled by Zanaflex 2mg every 2-2 1/2 hours, still to this day. I have severe pelvis, hip and thigh pain. My legs aches to the point of pain meds not touching them. He said all my physical tests show this problem is coming from my hip. He thought Aseptic Necrosis. He said he could do back surgery on me for all my herniated discs, and make lots of money off me, after all that is his job, but in good conscious, he could not do it. I would be back in his office complaining of pain still. He had some tests run. MRI showed NO. Bone Scan said NO. Xrays said NO. BUT, now my leg won't go forward at times. It gets stuck. I have a lot of pain in the hip. I saw an Ortho man and he said it is the back. My Rheumy said it is the back, and Severe Osteoarthritis of the Spine.
So, NOW, why is my hip hurting SO bad, and my leg getting stuck and not going forward. Sometimes if I stand on that leg, I have had such severe pain I have screamed.
I am starting to believe what the Neurosurgeon said back in September. I don't think it is the back, but exactly what the Neurosurgeon said, being the hip. I also tend to believe the Neurosurgeon over just an Ortho guy. The Rheumy is right, I do have severe osteoarthritis of the spine.
I am wondering if I should go back to the Neurosurgeon or what??
I am currently wheelchair bound now. I cannot walk any distance. In the house I can make it around somewhat, as the house is small. But, I cannot stand to cook dinner, and all kinds of other things like that.
I have 2 kids, 12 and 7. I cannot play much with them at all, unless it is sit-down games, books, or crafts. To top it off, both have ADHD, and my 12 year old has Bi-Polar. So I am dealing with a lot, BESIDES the pain.
The wheelchair I use is a Power Chair. I cannot use a manual because the muscle spasms come on and I cannot breathe when they hit bad. I cannot roll the wheels.
I am totally disabled. The Rheumy also just put me on Methotrexate. I wonder if I can buy time with that??
I just don't know what to do, who to believe?? Yet the Neurosurgeon has much more experience than any of the other Dr's.
What do you all think??
Thanks!!
Laurie
