not sure how to explain it, but it's just the way you walk.
I'll try to use it in a sentence

The old mans gait had slowed down since he had foot surgery

or

the little girl had a spring in her gait

Hi Rosequartz,

Thank you for replying i just wondered as the lady in the hospital spoke abut closing the gait etc and i was so out of it as not long came up from theatre i didnt get the chance to find out and since coming on this website i have heard the gait word mentioned a few times, so thank you for that,

If the lady at the hospital referred to "closing the gate" she probably meant "gate" not "gait". It makes no sense in that context.

Gait refers to the way you walk.

Gate is something on hinges that swings open in your garden or yard.

I am a 38 year old lady i think i know the difference between gate and gait!! the lady in hospital referred to closing the gate as in the walking but i did not understand the actual conversation as i previously stated i was high on morphine, but thank you for your reply not sure if you are being sarcastic or being helpful but unfortunatly you have not answered my question which was previously asked
