TKR Rehab Facility - Knee & Hip Problems Message Board

What can I expect at the Rehab facility? Is it all day PT? I have surgery coming up and would like some info on rehab. How long a stay?

The hospital stay is 3 or 4 days and that will probably be getting me on my feet.

My Mom is going through TKR and her time spent in Rehab was a week and her sessions were only once a day.

I went to a rehab facility and I have to say it was a pleasant experience. I stayed for a week and really got a lot accomplished. When I was in the hospital they pretty much only focused on my general health so in rehab it started right up with mobility. Each day at the hospital was just checking the incisions(sp) and making sure I knew who could help me to the bathroom. They weren't very good about the whole thing, but I'm guessing since I was so young they didn't know how to deal with me.

The first day was only about an hour of PT and then each day after that an hour was added on. They are really understanding but at the same time make you push yourself. I think without the help of the rehab facility I wouldn't be running and doing the sports that I love.

The one thing that hindered my stay was my roomate. I was 11(after having most of my knee shattered in a car accident) and she was 67 and not very nice. Luckily with my age I was able to get my own room once they realized their mistake.

I wish you good luck and just remember to be patient with yourself and your body.

Rehab seems to be a good process and one which helps recovery a lot.

I didn't have a knee replacement but when I had my hip replaced my "room mate" at the rehab was a TKR paitent.

At our rehabilitation facility we had 2 sessions daily of physical therepy and 2 session of occupation al therepy. I was there for 12 days and my roomie a little longer cause she ran into some minor problems.

I'll tell you this; I was better able to take care of myself after the rehab. Even though my family was home to help, I was definately less of a burden. And when it's time for the next hip

I'm going right back there!!
