Possible tear in meniscus?? - Knee & Hip Problems Message Board

I recently overextended my knee by squatting down for a long period of
time. Chiropractor said I might have a slight tear in my meniscus. Has
anyone out there had a small tear in the meniscus and NOT had surgery,
but some other kind of therapy that helped??

Hi there!

Some tears will heal, it depends on where the tear is...part of the meniscus has no blood supply.

Our daughter had problems with her knee, happenned playing basketball. We did Physical Therapy for a couple of months, with no relief. An MRI showed a small tear, due to her age, the surgeon recommended fixing it.

It turned out to be a very large, in his words "worst mensical tear I've seen in years". SHe had surgery, and ended up having to have a second surgery 4 months later as a piece didn't heal.....they snipped it off, and she's been good to go since!

Good luck! I don't know your age, but have heard that healing/surgery etc, depends on age. If my daughter had been me, they wouldn't have fixed it...they would have removed it.

She was 14 at the time of her surgery.
