| Recovering from a hyperextended knee
Hi,
I know this is a relatively small injury compared to some of the major surgeries and issues others are dealing with, but it's my first-ever knee injury so I'm a little lost. I hyperextended my knee playing football about a week and a half ago and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on recovering and rehabilitating it. My legs have always been pretty strong and healthy and I want to make sure I don't end up with any permanent damage/symptoms from this. I'm a little freaked out because I just turned 31 and this feels like a sure sign that I'm getting old! I workout and play several recreational sports (softball, football, mountain biking, running, etc.) and I want to be able to continue being active. Is it better to avoid activity until it heals completely? Is this something that is typically caused by a lack of strength in the knee? I've been icing it daily and using a brace whenever possible - anyone have any additional advice? Thanks in advance.
